The Massachusetts Guardianship Academy offers education and training on guardianship and other forms of surrogate decision making.

About the Guardianship Training

This training addresses the powers and responsibilities of a guardian within the state of Massachusetts. This one-day, 8-hour training for court-appointed guardians of adults is designed to provide a general overview of guardianship essentials and tools for making decisions on behalf of those with diminished decision-making capacity. Upon completion of this course, you will have a better understanding of your powers and duties to the individual and the court, as well as limitations to your authority. Target Audience

Who should attend? This training is for you if have recently been appointed as a guardian, if you are thinking about becoming a guardian, or are a current guardian and would like to refresh your knowledge on the essentials of guardianship. This one day class is also valuable for any service providers who work with and support individuals who have guardians. This training is NOT intended to teach participants to open or run a guardianship business.

Benefits of Training

Although training is not required to be a guardian in Massachusetts, attending this training will provide the foundational basics of guardianship, such as decision making standards and rights of the person under guardianship. Additionally, attendees will participate in activities during the day to reinforce material covered within the course. A case scenario is provided to walk you through record keeping and preparing necessary legal documentation for court submission. At the end of the course, participants will receive a handbook covering the material discussed in class, a certificate of successful completion and access to exclusive guardianship materials and resources available through the Massachusetts Guardianship Academy.

The Guardianship Training can be completed in 1 full 8 hour day, or in two sessions.

Upon completition of the full program participants will receive a certificate.

Registration:

Registration can be completed online by clicking the “Register” button next to the appropriate training.

Agencies can host a training at their facility for their staff for an affordable hosting fee, which includes CEUs for each participating staff member.
